Profiles : Glenn Warren

Following University Glenn joined the NHS in 1973.  His early experience ranged from Acute through to Community and Mental Health services. In 1977 he became manager of a large mental health service covering parts of Essex and east London. In 1991 he moved on to became CEO of North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare, then one of the largest trusts of its type in the country. During his time in North Staffordshire he successfully negotiated a first wave PFI enabling the successful transformation of mental health and learning difficulty services. During this time he chaired Shropshire and Staffordshire NHS Workforce Consortium, negotiating new contracts with both Staffordshire Universities.

 In 2001 he took the opportunity to build on his work with the University sector by moving to become CEO of Birmingham & the Black Country Workforce Development Confederation with a budget of nearly £200m. He has extensive European health and care experience, gained through chairing a WHO sponsored European network in primary healthcare. He has been active in the voluntary and community sector for many years and was chair of  Voluntary Action Stoke on Trent until 2006.  He is a Trustee of North Staffs Carers Association. In 2003 he left the NHS to set up Change Through Partnership. He has focused on enabling health and social care systems think outside the box, including the effective involvement of service users. Glenn's specialist areas include Older People, Mental Health and Learning Difficulties, where he has extensive experience in managing change. Much of his current work is with PCT’s where he is involved with strategy development and implementation. Glenn is a visiting lecturer at the University of Crete in Leadership studies.
